The federal government does not advertise widely, except perhaps for military recruiting. Thus, very few people are aware of the large and varied benefits, services and valuable information available to the general public. Don't feel reluctant to cash in on any benefit to which you might be entitled. The government encourages you to do so; these agencies are funded with part of your tax dollar. The value of the benefits listed in this report are worth many thousands of dollars but are free to you, and, of course, not available elsewhere.

EMPLOYMENT, JOB TRAINING & CAREERS. If you are a member of a low income family, between the ages of 16 to 21, you can get on-the-job experience or funds to further your education. Write: Neighborhood Youth Corps, U.S. Department of Labor, Washington, DC 20210.

Want a job as a tradesperson? You can obtain information for job security as an apprentice by requesting these books from U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship & Training, Washington, DC 20210: "Planned Training - Your Future Security", "The National Apprenticeship Program", "Careers in Apprenticeship."

The Job Corps offers good training for future careers. You get the opportunity to acquire skills, receive living allowances, room and board, clothing, medical and dental care, plus a small salary and the chance to serve in a foreign country. Adults over 21 in the poverty level get preferential consideration for government employment under "Operation Mainstream." Contact: Information Office, Operation Mainstream, Manpower Administration, U.S. Department of Labor, Washington, DC 20210.

Are you disabled or handicapped? Training and counseling services are available including payments for medical services and physical devices during rehabilitation. Contact: Rehabilitation Services, U.S. Department of Health, Education & Welfare, Washington, DC 20201.

For an aptitude test and a list of government jobs available in your area, contact your local U.S. Employment Service Office.

GENERAL BUSINESS ASSISTANCE. A large volume of publications dealing with operating a business successfully, effective salesmanship and business management, visual aids, and a booklet "Selling by Mail Order", may be obtained from the U.S. Small Business Administration, P.O. Box 15434, Fort Worth, Tx 76119.

FREE PUBLICATIONS. In addition to the many booklets available from the various federal agencies there are hundreds of other publications issued free, or at low bargain prices, concerning almost every conceivable subject - from consumer interest to technological data.

Send your request to receive the "Consumer Information Catalog" from Consumer Information Center, Pueblo, Co 81009. Also request the "Selected U.S. Government Publications" from Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, DC 20402.

FARMING. A huge library and consultation is available in the field of agriculture concerning crops, pests, fertilizer, animals and any subject or problem dealing with farming and agriculture. Contact the Division of Reference, National Agricultural Library, Beltsville, Md 20705 and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Consumer and Marketing Service, Washington, DC 20250.

Free architectural designs and plans for farm and rural structures are available from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Publications Division, Office of Information, Washington, DC 20250.

GOVERNMENT LAND FOR SALE, CHEAP! Want a hideaway cottage, establish a resort or ranch, obtain cattle grazing or mineral rights? A large selection of free geological maps is provided by the U.S. Geologic Survey, 800 18th St. NW, Washington, DC 20242.

FOR ALIENS. Free textbooks and correspondence courses on becoming U.S.A. citizens are available from the local U.S. Department of Education or the Immigration & Naturalization Service.

If you are a creative person, the government may pay 50% of the cost of your next project. Grants are made in music, dance, drama, radio, movie, TV, writing, sculpture, photography, painting, etc. Request information for the field of your interest from: National Endowment for the Arts, 1800 "G" St. NW, Washington, DC 20506.

If you are a science teacher or student, you can many educational and instructional visual aids from: Technical Information, U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, Oak Ridge, Tn 37830. Specify your particular interest and grade level.
